May 15 (Renewables Now) – Mexico’s Tamaulipas government announced last week it has inaugurated the first two phases of the Tres Mesas wind farm with a combined capacity of 148.5 MW.
Located in the municipality of Llera, the park will not only benefit local communities but also supply energy to companies in the food and manufacturing sector. The companies GBM Infraestructura and Goldman Sachs (NYSE:GS) invested approximately USD 234 million (EUR 214m) in the 45-wind turbine project. A third phase is also planned, it will add 51.8 MW and has an estimated investment of USD 80 million to be made by Engie (EPA:ENGI).
During the event, the Undersecretary of Electricity of Mexico’s Secretariat of Energy (SENER), Cesar Emiliano Hernandez Ochoa, pointed out that due to its high competitiveness and potential to generate clean energy, Tamaulipas will receive in the next three years around one-sixth of the USD 6.6 billion awarded in the country’s two clean energy auctions.
