History Highlights

  • 1982 — Oak Creek Energy project activities begin in Tehachapi and Mojave, California
  • 1982 — First Customer of Bonus in USA (6 Bonus turbines with another 30 next year)
  • 1983 — 2nd customer of Micon A/S from Denmark (2 x 65kW Micon turbines)
  • 1983 — Owner & Operator of Wind Energy Projects on owned land in Tehachapi
  • 1989-1994 — Over 200 turbines of poor design and/or location were scrapped and turned into cash that was used to help repair the remaining 313 Danish turbines (Micon, Vestas, Nordtank, Bonus and Lolland) – Average availability increased from ~30% to ~97%
  • 1994 — Oak Creek Energy was reorganized, and 100% of the equity was transferred to the turbine owners and vendors
  • 1997 — Oak Creek Energy took the first step toward repowering its Wind Farm properties with the installation of seven Micon 600 KW turbines, on unusually tall 55m towers.  This pilot repowering project was to be a test for Micon to prove the suitability of their turbine in the more intense wind resource area of the Oak Creek Wind Farm. The seven turbines were spread across varying areas of the Oak Creek site, and with the tall towers proved the enormous success of larger turbines on tall towers.  With only 15% of the site capacity, these turbines produced nearly 40% of the historical energy, a great success
  • 1999 — Construction and installation of 33 NEGM 700 kW turbines
  • 1999 — Construction and installation of two NEGM 800 kW test turbines
  • 2000 — Construction and installation of a NEGM 950 kW test turbine
  • 2002 — Construction and installation of a NEGM 1.5 MW test turbine
  • 2007 — Oak Creek Energy commenced construction of the 24 MW (V-90) Alite project on the California Portland Cement Mojave Plant, which is a 100% inside the fence project, and most likely the largest inside the fence wind project in USA. Construction was completed in 2008
  • 2010 — ALTA Wind Energy Center was sold with one of the largest PPAs ever signed
  • 2012 — Acquired a Development Company in Monterrey, Mexico and a pipeline of Wind Energy Projects
  • 2015 — Sold land and WTGs in Tehachapi to Terra-Gen and moved all activities to San Diego
  • 2015 — Established Oak Creek de México in Tamaulipas to handle construction and project management in Mexico
  • 2015 — Oak Creek Energy completed development and financing of the first two Tres Mesas projects (148.5 MW with V117 turbines), both were sold to Goldman Sachs and GBM, with Construction and Operations Management performed by Oak Creek de México
  • 2016 — Completed construction of the first Wind Energy Project in Mexico (62.7 MW)
  • 2016 — Acquired 80% of NerWind Services ApS in Denmark
  • 2016 — Sold the third Wind Energy Project in Mexico to Engie (49.5 MW)
  • 2017 — Completed the second Wind Energy Project in Mexico (85.8 MW)
  • 2017 — Sold the fourth Wind Energy Project in Mexico to Engie (95.7 MW)
  • 2017 – Sold the fifth Wind Energy Project in Mexico to EnerAB (306 MW)

Oak Creek Energy Historical Timeline

Oak Creek Energy has been a Pioneer Wind Energy Developer and Operator from its early wind energy project activities starting in 1982 in Tehachapi and Mojave, California.

Some of the very first Danish wind turbines (Micon, Vestas, Nordtank, Bonus, etc.) were brought into the United States as an Oak Creek Energy project, which formed the basis for the successful professional development of wind energy, as the sound economic business that we are familiar with today.

Significantly, the Wind Farm Model for successful wind energy development, now universally used worldwide, was first developed by Oak Creek Energy and several other developers, in those early days of wind energy.

2010

ALTA Wind Energy Center, developed by Oak Creek Energy was sold with one of the largest PPAs ever signed (1,550 MW) and 3,000 MW of transmission rights

2012

Acquired a Development Company in Monterrey, Mexico and a pipeline of Wind Energy Projects

2016

Completed the first Wind Energy Project in Mexico (ETM = 49.5 MW – V117)

2017

Sold the fifth Wind Energy Project in Mexico to EnerAB (306 MW), which successfully completed the Tres Mesas 600 MW pipeline, all of which are operating or in construction
